Week 5: The Rainout Shuffle
Week 5 was, well, wet. Seriously, it felt like it rained every single day here. Our schedule was light, with only 3 games, but the weather made us shuffle them around. I wasn’t actually scheduled to pitch last week, but with the schedule changes, we found ourselves with a DH on Friday and I was on bullpen duty. I was ready to go if the coaches needed me, but in the end, they didn’t call my number. It’s a bummer not to get in the game, but supporting the team is always the main goal.
Week 6: Complete Game Victory!
Now, Week 6? That’s more like it! I got the start, and it was a good one. I threw a complete game and we snagged a 3-1 win! It felt awesome to go the distance and get the W for the team.
This was actually the second time this season I’ve faced Dowling HS. I pitched against them back in Week 3, and let me tell you, it’s always tougher the second time you see a team. They’ve seen your stuff, and they know what to look for.
They definitely got some hits off me – 8 hits total, but 7 of those were singles (including a couple really well-placed bunts). It was super important that I kept my control on point, and thankfully, I only gave up one walk. That really helped prevent them from turning those singles into big innings. I ended the night with 9 strikeouts, and honestly, I was really happy with how I pitched, especially since it was a hot June night here in Iowa!
It’s bittersweet to think the regular season is winding down, but the excitement for the postseason is definitely building! It kicks off on July 11th for 4A, and I’m already pumped. We’ve still got probably 1, maybe 2 more regular season outings to finish strong before substate starts. Until then, I’m just focusing on staying healthy and ready. That means a good mix of rest, checking in with the trainers, getting my workouts in, and, of course, chilling with my teammates.
